Remnants Of The Past - Act 2
This is the second act of a semi-linear fantasy and romance interactive story focused on the relationships and emotional connection between its characters. It is influenced by the Guanche culture, where you'll navigate a fantasy world and face the destiny that the gods have chosen for you and your loved ones.

What do I mean when I say it's a semi-linear story?
It means that, although there are variations and certain changes depending on your choices, the main plot and the most important scenes involving the main characters remain the same. Your decisions will allow you to influence various aspects and go through different branches that will affect the plot, but they won’t change the core of the story.
Basically, think of games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age.
You find yourself in an unknown world. With time and powerful sources against you, you and your friends rush to end the corrupted cycle once and for all. However, a new setback leads you down a much different path.
The light brought by hope shines bright around them, but few are the ones who know about the darkness lurking within. The queen is the most powerful piece of the board, but it all depends on how much you trust her to aid you on your quest.
The Void is calling. Will you answer?
This story contains violence, blood, swearing, some optional sex scenes, and deals with serious topics such as depression, death and drug abuse.
If you are sensitive to any of these topics, please proceed with caution.
- Customise the main character. Choose their gender, appearance, personality, combat style and occupation.
- Build and maintain strong friendships with your companions.
- Choose one of the five romance options available and experiment their story intertwined with the main plot.
- Or stay single and just enjoy an epic adventure!
- An extensive codex where all the important information about the story, characters, places and crucial objects will be kept, and it will be updated as you progress in the plot.
- Important choices that will shape the destiny of each world and lead to different endings.
Remnants Of The Past includes five romantic options.
Leire/Luca, the guard
A fearless warrior, as fierce in battle as their hair is red and capable of making any demons tremble with a single glance. They worked as a guard in the town of Sorrol, where they lived alone with their older sibling in their parents' house since a tragic accident took them away when they were young.
They highly value their privacy and it's not easy to get to know them, as they are very selective about the people they let into their life. Luckily you are one of them, and you have been able to see that there is something more under that rough exterior that they try so hard to maintain, even if it has been only a few times. Yet you get the feeling that you've only scratched the surface of their complex being.
Ada/Omar, the doctor.
Doctor of Sorrol, and heir to the throne of Thaon. After the great civil war in Astian, they decided to accompany you on your journey to save the world alongside your friends. With their kingdom secure, they aim to end the corrupted cycle and keep their people safe so they don't have to live in fear anymore.
And if they can, they'll do so in style.
Albert/Lavina, the builder.
Kind, devoted, considerate and Sorrol's star builder, the oldest of the Terrastars does their best to take care of their little sibling, with whom they lived in one of the oldest houses of their village before it was destroy by the demons.
But although they are capable, the heavy burden they'll have to carry on their shoulders from now on will have a great impact on them. Only time will tell if they'll survive the weight and manage to not drown with it.
Rayco/Gara, the guardian.
Sorrol's old tavern keeper, and guardian of the human world. This celestial being came from Taoro, the world of the great goddess Abora, in search for you, their mortal companion, in order to end the corrupted cycle that threatens the five worlds and send the tibicenas back to Echeide.
However, to avoid the destruction of life as you know it, a price must be paid, and that price is their own life. And what's more, you are the one who must take it from them when the time comes. But when it's the life of someone you care about, the decision is not as easy as it seems.
Belicar/Nisa, the renegade.
The person of your dreams, literally.
A strange creature you met in your dreams. Their close and familiar attitude confuses you, they know more than they say and don't try to hide it, in fact they seem to enjoy getting on your nerves.
They claim to be a friend and assure you that you're safe with them, but you can't help but get the feeling that this protection comes with a price, and right now you don't know if it's worth paying.
You know they have the answers to all your questions. It's only a matter of time to see if they're willing to reveal them.
- This is a WIP. The story is very long and what I am sharing is only the first draft. With time I could edit chapters that I have already published, changing some scenes or deleting them completely if I think it’s the best.
- The language is in English, however, it is NOT my mother tongue and there will be grammatical errors. I would really appreciate if you let me know so I can fix it.
- I currently don’t have a schedule for updates, but there should be a new chapter every few months. However, keep in mind that I am only one person, and therefore, the time between updates can vary greatly depending on the length of the chapter and personal problems I may have in real life.

Hey! I have a few questions if you don't mind
1. Is there a chance to fail the romances e.g. RO rejecting MC (Although an interesting/realistic mechanic I don't enjoy it on IFs but of course this is your choice!!!)
2. On a scale 1-10 how angst filled are the RO routes?
3. On a scale 1-10 how fluff filled are the routes after establishing a relationship?

1. Is there a chance to fail the romances?
No, none. Once you're in their route there's no way they'll fall out of love with the MC.
I find it a bit silly (and annoying if it's a RO I like) when ROs can reject the MC in IFs. I understand the logic behind it, but it makes me feel that I can't play without a guide in hand. Obviously, the ROs shouldn't have to instantly like the MC and approve everything they say or do, but to have the chance of them breaking up with the MC... I'm glad for those authors who like it and add it to their stories, but it's a feature that will never be on mine.
2. On a scale 1-10 how angst filled are the RO routes?
It depends on what you consider to be angst. I think all of them have a bit of angst in them, but maybe I believe one of them is a 7, and for you is a 4, lol!
I'd say it's like this:
Ada/Omar: 6, maybe more if the MC knows they're in love.
Albert/Lavina: 2
Leire/Luca: 8
Rayco/Gara: 9
But! Keep in mind that the angst will stop for all of them except Rayco/Gara the moment they get together, so most of the time it will be more fluff than angst :D
3. On a scale 1-10 how fluff filled are the routes after establishing a relationship?
Like the second question, it depends on your definition of fluff, but for me is:
Ada/Omar: 5
Albert/Lavina: 9
Leire/Luca: 7
Rayco/Gara: 8

Oooooh that's really interesting. Lmao I am glad that there is no feature of RO rejecting MC I feel like that in a way defeats the purpose of IFs being fictional works in the first place 😭😭 but each to their own!
Also the way there is no mention of Belicar/Nisa anywhere is quite funny 😂

those flashbacks with the mom in times in need really made my tear up and this new chapter made me cry. So beautifully written specially that one choice i picked when mc realizes what to do before the chapter ends.

At the end of the prologue we see that it is Luca who does the deed but it is Albert who commits the most despicable act. Perhaps this was a mistake?
Anyways I very thoroughly enjoyed the update and keep up the stellar writing!!!❤️
No mistake, actually. What I meant with that is that the despicable act Albert/Lavina made was looking away while Leire/Luca… well, did what they did. Though now that I look at it again, perhaps it’s not clear enough and should change how it is phrased. Sorry for the confusion 😅

I found some other bugs whilst reading through so I would like to share them whilst we are at it
1. I'm not sure if this happens with other eye colours but when MC has grey eyes the underlined word shows up
2. When having Gara we see the sudden mention of Rayco as shown underlined
3. I'm not sure if this happens with Mako too but it happens with Iasa as shown underlined
4. Nisa's pronouns seem to change at the beginning of the paragraph but then go back to normal
I saw a few more and I will try to send them to you when I can. There are also a few small spelling mistakes but I thought I would send in the bigger errors. Thanks!

I've been checking this page for the past week as if that would make the 9th come any faster. I don't think I've managed to follow a story for so long (a failing of my own loll), but you keep me hooked through every update!
I did run into a couple instances of errors, two with the variables for LA's gender and one with the relationship status with LL; hopefully they're down far enough to be under a read more to prevent spoilers. I tried posting screenshots but Itchio kept erroring out :(

You frown. "We're not going to tell him anything? She's his sister!"

"Her little brother, who just lost an arm protecting her. She must already feel horrible, how do you think she'll feel when she finds out what Luca's been taking?" she replies harshly, and shakes her head.

Only when she feels the weight of the pendant hanging from her collarbone does she open her eyes. The sobs pause for a moment, and Lavina lifts her gaze to you, surprised.
You kneel in front of her and place your hands on her shoulders.

Something twists inside you, the ache and fear that comes with knowing how close you were to losing him. Your throat tightens for a moment, but you don’t let yourself falter. You’re not sure if it’s because of love, rage, or sorrow.

And also thanks for reporting those errors! I run into them while testing and I thought I fixed them, but forgot to replace the file with the corrected version 🤦♂️. I already fixed that mistake and those errors shouldn't be there anymore! Hopefully I didn't miss anything else :D

I really, really, really enjoy this story and the characters so much! How you describe the atmosphere and scenery is so good! Dark scene really make my heart pound faster and wholesome scence make me aww in return. Not every story gets a reaction out of me but yours truly does!
I am following a certain white haired RO ;) and i absolutly love the moments with them. How its not just "Hey, i like you." but really a complex thing with them and gosh, those interaction have me at the edge of my seat in a good way!
I love how all the other MC`s and Sidecharacters are so different but do not feel out of place. I keep finding me back here to read the story again after a while cause i genuinly like it.

That white-haired RO really does have a unique charm no one else can match, right? ;D I have so much fun writing those Belicar/Nisa moments. I love when they show up just to tease the MC and be annoyingly cryptic xD They're a vey complex character indeed. Way more than most people might guess, believe me, lol! I can’t wait to dive deeper into their story and romance... there's just so much to reveal and I’m 100% sure no one will see it coming, hehe ;)

Greetings!! The update is great as ever, but I have faced multiple coding issues that breaks the game. One such instance has been attached. Hopefully such bugs would be looked into, in future updates.

All right, I just checked and fixed a few of those bugs, including that one in the screenshot. I'm very sorry for the issues! Ada/Omar's route is a bit tricky to test with all the variations it has.

Hi, I just tested the game with that option, yet the same issue persists. Is there something to do with the saves?
That shouldn't be happening because of the saves, no. It's so weird. I’m not getting any errors with that option. The only thing I can think of is moving the variable to be set when you go to the next page instead of when you click the option, which is how it worked before. Try it now, maybe it wasn’t setting properly for some reason. It should be working without issues now.

I am just wondering, this is for future reference for me, what do we go to report errors or bugs? I don't know where you prefer us to send in reports for error and bugs or tell you of said errors or bugs. As soon as I started chapter 4 there is an error on top. I haven't gotten far into the chapter, as I wanted to tell you of that particular error.

I think I found the error you're talking about. Was it the one with the dialogue options when Mako/Iasa flirts with the MC? If so, I just fixed it and the error should be gone! :D
It was at the very start of chapter 4 just above [In the dark depths of the ocean...] was the one I found. I didn't get pass the first page, since I had thought that you might want to know about it sooner than later.

Lol! I've never played Subnautica, actually. First person and giant monsters? No, thank you xD. The depths of the ocean and outer space are the two things I respect the most. It was tough for me to play Outer Wilds for that reason. I got scared every time I saw the Red Giant and had to turn the camera somewhere else, hahaha!
But if you get Subnautica vibes while reading it means I managed to convey the underwater atmosphere well, and I'm glad of it :D

Hello! I submitted this as a bug report when chapter one was first published (I'm very sorry if I'm just being impatient) but I noticed the card on the trello didn't have a priority color so I got worried I may have messed up my report somewhere.
When selecting Leire/Luca as my love interest and saying I know I love them, the game hard stops. There seems to be an extra | symbol in the choice link, so it's trying to take me to a passage (that doesn't exist) named "|NC23" rather than "NC23" and preventing me from proceeding
Sorry again if I'm just being impatient! I loved Act 1 and am very excited for Act 2.
Oh no, don't worry, you're not being impatient at all! It was my bad, Trello should notify me when I get a card, but it just doesn't for some reason and I have to check it manually, which, as you have noticed already, I completely forgot about :')

Just my luck to be on the one route to suffer the unyielding wrath of a single-character typo in a line of code loll. No more gazing longingly at Act 2 through the window for me <3

I don't know why icons are broken for you, though. I've tested it with an old save I had and it works fine for me both on PC and mobile. Maybe it's the browser you're using? But if Act 1 works fine and it's only Act 2, then I'm afraid I have no idea.
Never mind about the buttons, Dark reader add-on broke them.
Bit of a technical question, finished the act 1 few days ago and just wanted to know how will the save/choice transfer happen?
A new character creation and then pick what happened in act 1 or some sort of save transfer?
Mostly just want to know if i should keep save from the ending or i shouldn't worry about that.
I've been testing a few things to see if you can import the save from Act 1 to Act 2, but I haven't found a way yet. For now I'd say keep the save file just in case, but if I haven't figure something out to import your previous choices by the time I release Chapter 1, I'll just create a new character creation and let you pick all the important choices at the beginning.

Maybe try and see how Superstition did it? Ask the dev maybe? She managed to have some sort of save export at the end of seasons.

Just finished reading the first act and im really looking forward to how the story will progress from there! I also enjoy the conversations with our dreamperson haha. The characters are well written and the story as well as the world building are interesting. The tension is well kept with chunks of information thrown your way but just enough to understand a bit but not too much as to spoil the guessing game. All in all, i am really looking forward to Act 2! Thank you for all your hard work!
